P.F. Candle Co. is probably the brand people recognize fastest when they walk into our shop. The amber glass, the minimal labels, the California-rooted scent profiles - they have built something that feels both familiar and genuinely well-made. Started in a Los Angeles apartment, now hand-poured in their own LA factory. Everything is soy wax, phthalate-free, and made domestically.
We carry their full range across four product categories: candles, incense, room sprays, and air fresheners. Here is what every single one smells like and who it is for.
The Candles (24oz, $24 each)
P.F.'s candles are the big format - 24oz amber glass jars with brass lids and 100+ hour burn times. These are statement candles for living rooms, dining rooms, and open floor plans. At $24 for over a hundred hours of burn time, they are also one of the best per-hour values we carry.
Pinon
Notes: Pine and cedar on top. Smoke in the heart. Vanilla and vetiver at the base.
This is the Southwest in a jar. Pinon logs burning in a terracotta fireplace, glowing embers, cold desert air. The smoke note is upfront but not aggressive - it is blended with enough vanilla and cedar to feel cozy rather than acrid. One of P.F.'s most iconic scents. If you like smoky, earthy candles, Pinon is essential.
Teakwood & Tobacco
Notes: Orange and leather on top. Black tea, pepper, and tobacco leaf in the heart. Sandalwood, teak, patchouli, musk, and amber at the base.
The one that started it all for P.F. Some people call it the boyfriend candle. We just call it a classic. Warm, woody, musky, and unmistakably inviting. The leather and tobacco give it depth, and the sandalwood-teak base makes it last in the room for hours. We wrote a full review of Teakwood & Tobacco if you want the deep dive.
Sweet Grapefruit
Notes: Grapefruit on top. Lily of the valley and coriander blossom in the heart. Vetiver at the base.
The bright one. Sweet Grapefruit is the candle you light when you want your house to feel awake and fresh. The grapefruit is honest - not candy-sweet, not overly floral - and the vetiver base gives it just enough earthiness to keep it interesting. Kitchens, bathrooms, spring and summer.
Arroyo Oak
Notes: Vetiver and frankincense on top. California oak in the heart. Cedarwood and amber at the base.
The newest addition to their candle lineup. Earthy, woody, grounded - like sunlight coming through California oak trees. The frankincense adds a resinous warmth, and the vetiver gives it a subtle smokiness. If Pinon is the desert, Arroyo Oak is the foothill woodland.
The Incense (11 scents, $11-$20)
P.F.'s incense is charcoal-based, hand-dipped in Los Angeles. Each stick burns for about an hour. They come in two sizes: 15-stick packs ($11) and 20-stick packs ($20). The scent throw is designed to be atmospheric without being overpowering - which matters because some incense brands will choke a room.
If you are new to incense or want to understand the differences between types, our beginner's guide to Japanese incense and incense vs. candles comparison cover the basics.
The Woody and Earthy Ones
Amber & Moss ($11, 15 sticks) - Moss and lavender, sage and orange, amber and musk. A weekend in the mountains. Earthy and green with a warm amber finish. One of their bestsellers.
Blonde Hinoki ($20, 20 sticks) - Hinoki and cypress, cedar, vetiver and oakmoss. Pale wood, green cypress, earthy undertones. Clean and meditative. If you like the idea of Japanese forest bathing, this is the incense for it.
Plush Vetiver ($20, 20 sticks) - Vetiver, suede and leather, cedar and smoke. Soft, earthy, like a well-worn leather jacket. The vetiver note here is different from how it shows up in candles - smokier, more textured. This is one of our personal favorites.
Golden Coast ($11, 15 sticks) - Eucalyptus and sea salt, redwood, palo santo and sage. Big Sur as incense. Coastal, herbal, slightly smoky. A beautiful bridge between woody and fresh.
Pinon ($11, 15 sticks) - Same scent profile as the candle - pine, cedar, smoke, vanilla, vetiver - but in incense form, the smoke note is amplified. If you already love the Pinon candle, the incense is the more atmospheric version.
The Warm and Sweet Ones
Milky Santal ($20, 20 sticks) - Sandalwood, vanilla and coconut, amber and musk. Creamy, warm, comforting. If sandalwood is your thing, Milky Santal is one of the most beautiful incense versions of it you will find.
Smoked Cherry ($20, 20 sticks) - Cherry, smoke and wood, vanilla and amber. Dark, fruity, warm. Not at all like cherry candy - this is sophisticated and a little mysterious. One for the evening.
Tuberose Musk ($20, 20 sticks) - Tuberose, musk and jasmine, blonde woods and amber. The floral option. Soft, white floral with a musky base that keeps it grounding. Not sweet or powdery - just lush and warm.
The Fresh and Herbal Ones
Ojai Lavender ($11, 15 sticks) - Pixie tangerine, bergamot, and eucalyptus on top. Lavender, rose, and lily in the heart. Mint and red cedar at the base. Sun-drenched California lavender - not the sleepy, medicinal kind. The citrus top keeps it bright.
Wild Herb Tonic ($11, 15 sticks) - Lavender and mint, basil and rosemary, cedar and eucalyptus. Like walking barefoot through an herb garden on a warm afternoon. Fresh, aromatic, alive.
Teakwood & Tobacco ($11, 15 sticks) - Same profile as the candle. In incense form, the tobacco and leather come through stronger, and the smoke adds another dimension. A great option if you want the Teakwood & Tobacco experience without committing to a large candle.
The Room Sprays (3 scents, $22 each)
P.F.'s room sprays come in 7.75oz amber glass bottles with fine-mist nozzles. The formula is water-based and body-safe - you can spray it on yourself, on linens, in closets, anywhere. For a deeper look at room sprays in general, check our room spray guide.
Golden Coast - Eucalyptus, sea salt, redwood, palo santo, sage. The coastal spray. A couple of spritzes and the room smells like Big Sur. Lasts longest when sprayed directly on fabric.
Ojai Lavender - Pixie tangerine, bergamot, eucalyptus, lavender, rose, lily, mint, red cedar. The calming spray. Beautiful on pillows and linens before bed. Also works as a body mist.
Teakwood & Tobacco - Orange, leather, black tea, pepper, tobacco leaf, sandalwood, teak, patchouli, musk, amber. The warm spray. This is the easiest way to get that beloved Teakwood & Tobacco scent into a room immediately, without waiting for wax to melt.
The Air Fresheners (7 scents, $12 each)
Phthalate-free fragrance oil on recycled paper pulp. Hang one in your car, closet, locker, or anywhere that needs a subtle, ongoing scent presence. They last 2-4 weeks and can be refreshed with a gentle squeeze. Check out our car air freshener guide for tips on getting the most from them.
